After long negotiations, Finland’s new government is now being presented. The immigration-critical True Finns get seven ministerial positions, reports Yle.
The governing coalition includes the True Finns, the moderate Samlingspartiet, the Swedish People’s Party and the Christian Democrats.
Together, after tough negotiations, they have agreed on a government program.
According to Yle, the chairman of the True Finns, Riikka Purra, states that there will be major changes in climate and immigration policy.
You can talk about a paradigm shift, says Purra.
He mentions stricter asylum policies, time-bound and conditional protection, and “compulsory integration”.
The migration policy faced opposition within the Swedish People’s Party’s party group, but despite internal divisions, the party chose to join the government just hours before it was announced.
Prime Minister will be the leader of the Samlingspartiet, Petteri Orpo.
We have now received a program of 140 pages, about a new Finland that cares. We have reached a final result after seven weeks of negotiations, says Orpo.
The new government intends to implement major cuts, and public finances are expected to shrink by around €6 billion in the next term.
