Egyptian suspects carrying knives were arrested for lighting fires while yelling “Allah akbar” over the weekend in France, according to reports.

The disturbing incident unfolded at around 7:30 p.m. on Friday night in Champigny-sur-Marne, a commune in the suburbs of Paris.

Authorities were alerted about men setting fire to trash bins while shouting Islamic slogans, Le Figaro reports.

Arriving officers encountered two men, one of whom was observed discarding a large knife when he saw officers approaching.

The other man was also found to be carrying a blade.

They were arrested and charged with “degradation of private property by fire, carrying a prohibited weapon and apology for terrorism.”

The suspects reportedly continued to yell “Allah akbar” while being taken into custody.

“The individuals are, in fact, two brothers of Egyptian nationality, aged 23 and 25,” Valeurs Actuelles reports, citing sources at CNews.

“One of them would also be already known to the police, and would even have been the subject of an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF) in 2020.”

A heated debate over violent crime and lawlessness tied to mass migration has been raging in France.
