An Algerian migrant who is suspected of having stabbed a 48-year-old Belgian woman multiple times with a kitchen knife in her own home is now facing 13 years in prison.
The incident, which took place on December 14th, 2019 in Knokke-Heist in West Flanders, saw the Algerian perpetrator break into the woman’s home when she was out. The perpetrator then waited until the victim arrived back at her home before grabbing her, knocking her to the ground, and then stabbing repeatedly with a large kitchen knife, Het Nieuwsblad reports.
According to the police, the Algerian migrant stabbed the victim 14 times in the neck and thoracic area. After stabbing her, the ruthless attacker is said to have punched the victim in the stomach a few more times before leaving her to die on the floor.
Somehow, the woman did not succumb to the injuries inflicted upon her and managed to call the emergency services. A police investigation into the incident revealed that 27-year-old Amine M., an Algerian national, was more than likely the perpetrator. Two weeks later, Amine M. was arrested in Switzerland. Shortly after his arrest he was extradited to Belgium where he will be tried for his alleged crimes.
At the initial hearing, the public prosecutor, who pointed out the Algerians criminal past, called for a 13 year prison sentence for the perpetrator if he’s found guilty.
“This man is particularly dangerous and should disappear behind bars as long as possible. He is known for facts in Spain and Algeria and when he was transferred to Belgium he had a stabbing weapon that he had made in his Swiss cell,” the prosecutor said.
Also at the court hearing, the victim was given the opportunity to face the man who stabbed and left her for dead.
“Why didn’t you just leave?” the woman said. “I gave you everything you wanted, but you still tried to kill me. You executed me in my own home and every day the scars remind me of what happened. But I am very happy to be alive here today.”
