Two brothers who preyed on vulnerable women leaving nightclubs and bars around Shoreditch and Westend have been found guilty of rape by Wood Green Crown Court.
After being convicted of rape, assault by penetration, theft, fraud, and money laundering earlier this month, 26-year-old Nazmul Ahmed on May 1st was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Ahmed was also placed on a sex offender registry for the remainder of his life.
The court heard how Ahmed sexually assaulted and robbed a woman in her twenties after she had accepted a ride home from him after a night out in September of 2018.
After identifying Ahmed through CCTV footage and linking him to other assaults on women in the area, authorities arrested him at his home near King’s Cross the following day.
Since his arrest, police have linked Nazmul Ahmed to two additional attacks, including the rape of woman in her twenties who woke up alone in a hotel room after a night out to find her bank cards nowhere to be seen and £3,000 missing from her bank account.
During the trial, the judge referred to Ahmed as a “predator” and “ruthless and callous serial sex offender”.
In April, Ahmed’s older brother Selim, aged 32, was also found guilty of kidnapping and sexual assault, despite denying the charges.
Selim, pretending to be a cab driver, sexually assaulted and robbed a women in her twenties after picking her up as she waited for a bus on Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch.
During court proceedings, Detective Inspector Louise Caveen called the Ahmed brothers “predatory offenders” for targeting “vulnerable women for sexual assault” and “defrauding them”.
“We were able to link the brothers to this behaviour, which they continued to deny in the face of overwhelming evidence,” Caveen added.
So far, a total of four women have testified against the Ahmed brothers. Police believe there could be more.
