Nigel Farage, the leader of UKIP, has expressed his optimism about the possibility of Donald Trump becoming the President of the United States, believing it would be good news for Britain. Farage argued that those criticizing Trump for his “big shouty” style were underestimating his abilities, pointing to the tycoon’s success as a top businessman as an asset for boosting the US economy. According to Farage, Trump could be more pro-British than Obama, drawing a parallel to late President Ronald Reagan, whom critics initially dismissed but later acknowledged as a great president.
Despite Trump’s controversial remarks, such as proposing a ban on Muslims entering America, he has surged ahead in the race for the Republican nomination. Farage suggested that Trump’s rhetoric might evolve beyond the loud and confrontational style, revealing a more nuanced approach.
Farage dismissed polls favoring the pro-Europe camp in the run-up to the EU referendum, emphasizing the potential for a strong showing by groups advocating for Britain to leave the EU. He highlighted the public’s growing dissatisfaction with the political establishment, rejecting complacency from the pro-Europe camp.
In response to Lord Rose’s statement that Brits would see higher wages if the UK left the EU, Farage praised the pro-Europe camp boss, stating he was “absolutely bang on the money.” Farage even expressed his intention to buy Lord Rose lunch, deeming him the perfect leader for the Remain camp.
Looking ahead to the referendum results, Farage predicted that if anti-Europe groups emerged victorious on June 23, celebratory gatherings in the streets would rival the festivities of VE day, marking the end of World War II. Despite odds favoring the pro-Europe camp in some betting indicators, Farage remained steadfast in his belief that the campaign was far from over and that the Brexit supporters had a significant chance of success.
