Rapist Wins Right to Stay in UK

A 24-year-old Nigerian rapist has successfully avoided deportation from the UK after the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that expelling him would violate his right to family life. Despite not having a partner or children, the court ordered the British government to allow him to stay and cover £3,500 of his legal bills.

The rapist, identified only as AA, had been convicted at the age of 15 in 2002 for raping a 13-year-old girl, just two years after arriving in the country. Since his conviction, he has completed A-levels, a degree, and a master’s course at the expense of taxpayers and currently works for a local authority.

The decision by the ECHR has sparked criticism, with some arguing that the human rights industry’s interference hinders the UK’s ability to handle foreign criminals on its own soil. Gerard Batten, a UK Independence Party MEP, expressed frustration, stating, “Yet again we see that because of the human rights industry we can no longer deal with foreign criminals on our soil.”

A Border Agency spokeswoman expressed disappointment with the judgment and stated that they would carefully consider the next steps. The case adds to the ongoing debate about the balance between individual human rights and the need for effective measures to address criminal behavior, especially among foreign nationals residing in the UK.

  1. More than likely it’s great that they kept him there. 15 years old and 13 years old…I bet this was a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship that her parents found out about and pressed charges. If this is the case then I wish this young man the best he can get out of life!
