The group criticizes the House of Commons as the place where the lives of millions are changed and unjust wars are launched.
Politicians and fellow Muslims have condemned the group’s incendiary comments, expressing concerns about potential racial tension and disruption of community cohesion. Conservative MP Patrick Mercer finds the group’s views extremely distasteful, while Tory MP Philip Davies suggests that those who support Sharia law should move to a country where it is already established. The Islamic Society of Britain emphasizes that the majority of Muslims despise such extremist views, and MP Ann Widdecombe argues against having two legal systems side by side.
The rally’s final approval is pending, and the Metropolitan Police emphasize the right to express views sensibly without inciting violence or religious hatred. The Islam4UK website, fronted by preacher Anjem Choudary, reveals plans for the march. Choudary explains the mock-up of Nelson’s Column, stating that under Sharia law, statues or idols are prohibited, and Nelson’s statue would be removed. He outlines draconian punishments under Sharia law, such as stoning for adultery and public lashings for alcohol intoxication. Choudary has previously mocked the deaths of British soldiers and criticized an Army homecoming parade as a “vile parade of brutal murderers.”
