Isn't it a mistake to raise the child of a cold heart murderer?

A 6-month-old boy whose mother was strangled by his father will be raised by his grandmother.

“I’ll never be able to fill my daughter’s shoes,” said Karen Gloyd. ”No one has ever enjoyed or loved a baby as much as she loved her baby.”

Alex D. Martinez, 22, told police that he killed his wife Angela L. Harris, 21, Saturday and drove 220 miles to the town of Fishkill to dump her body, state police said.

Gloyd, 43, and Angela’s stepfather, Michael, 51, said they will raise their grandson, Draven. The couple have an 8-year-old son and live in Liverpool.

She first met this negro when she was only 14 years old!

“We just have to focus on this little boy and raise him,” Gloyd said. “I just don’t know how we are going to tell him that his father killed his mother.

“We didn’t expect this, everyone has troubles and arguments, but we never expected anything like this,” she said.

Harris and Martinez met at Beacon High School in Dutchess County when she was 14 years old. Harris moved with her family to Liverpool and attended Liverpool High School. The couple were married in February and lived in an apartment in Clay.

“It’s hard to believe that two months ago we were celebrating her wedding, which should have been the happiest time in her life, and now we have to bury her,” said Michael Gloyd.

Angela was a stay-at-home mom, Karen Gloyd said.

“She loved the idea of having a family and being married,” Gloyd said. “She just blossomed when she became a mom.

“Since she had this baby, she lived for him. She lived to be a mom. Everything was about him,” she said.

Angela’s father, Bill Harris, of Baldwinsville, said his daughter always tried to do the right thing.

“She was very loving and caring but she was also very stubborn and tough,” he said.” She wouldn’t want to be thought of as a victim. She was strong and she always stood up for others.”

The day before her death, Angela, Karen, Michael and Angela’s 8-year-old brother Shawn took Draven on his first trip to the beach.

“Friday we spent the day together at Oneida Shores,” Karen Gloyd said. “I’m glad I have those memories of her because it was the perfect day.”

Karen and Michael Gloyd described their son-in-law as quiet, polite and intelligent. They said they didn’t know why he did what he did.

“It’s not a race issue. His race doesn’t matter, it is his actions,” said Karen Gloyd, who said she was upset with some posters on Syracuse.com who made comments about Martinez’s race.

She said Martinez loved Draven very much and she doesn’t understand why he killed Angela.

“It’s so difficult; we are Christians and we want to find it in our hearts to forgive him,” said Michael Gloyd. “But it’s just so very difficult.”
