With these words a black police inspector from Tembisa on the East Rand allegedly scolded the victims of an armed robbery and hijacking attempt in Kempton Park on Monday night.
This officer, whose name is known to Beeld, apparently refused to arrest a black suspect on the scene.
He also refused to open a case after Nic Lubbe, 51, from Kempton Park West, his daughter, Antoenet Cronjé, and her two sons, Morné, 11, and Kyle, 3, were assailed by robbers on Monday night.
‘White dogs’
He ostensibly also refused to allow white members of the Norkem Park police to search the suspects’ car and called them “white dogs”.
Lubbe said he was on his way to drop off his daughter and grandchildren at their house in Terrenure at about 23:00 when he saw a grey Corsa bakkie next to the road in Orange River Street.
Suddenly the Corsa bakkie’s headlights went on to blind Lubbe. Then it was driven into Lubbe’s bakkie from behind.
Three armed men jumped off the back and grabbed Cronjé’s handbag.
Lubbe sped away and later returned to the scene with his wife, Mara, 49, and members of the Norkem Park police office.
A black inspector from the Tembisa roadblock task team was already there with one of the suspects (the driver of the Corsa). The other three got away.
“The inspector said we were white dogs and he told a white policewoman that he would see to it that she was shot dead in a robbery.
“Then he cocked his R5 (rifle) in my face and said it was time that we whites packed our bags and fu**ed off out of the country.”
An eyewitness apparently heard the inspector’s offensive remarks.
“I saw how these people were robbed, but he protected the criminal.”
The inspector apparently did open an accident report. The Corsa driver’s wife then arrived on the scene, posing as a police officer.
One of the Norkem Park police officers said this woman wanted to arrest them when they tried to search the Corsa for “interfering with the scene”.
Lubbe said the woman emptied out the contents of his daughter’s handbag and returned the empty handbag to her.
On Tuesday Lubbe opened a case of armed robbery and attempted hijacking at the Norkem Park police.
Gauteng police spokesperson Superintendent Eugene Opperman said the matter was being investigated “with the view to possible disciplinary steps.”
The Tembisa and provincial police management have expressed their shock at the alleged incident, he said.

like so many people I know have left SA for a long time, recently returned to this beautiful country I have seen so many new aspects of what is happening.. I know many South Africans who are living abroad only to feel angry for having to leave in the first place, same as myself. what is sad is to return to a country where one had so many good memories to find very little of it still exist, placed we knew as kids changed, parks and gardens are derilect, what strike me most is people who were affected by apartheid only wanted to share in the beauty and pleasure we once knew, by ending Apartheid many black peole longed for nothing more but to have a normal existence between other peole of this country, unfortunately not much of that lifestyle exist any more, the heart of Pretoria have changed into a place where no sane person would go.. to be part of the lifestyle everyone aspired, you need to be in a well paid occupation where you can spent time in Samdton mall where your money doesn’t know the colour of your skin.. I find South Africa very tranquil when you travel from your security estate to the well guarded shopping malls where crime and racism doesn’t seem to exist.. what is saddens me is that no kids born after 70 would ever experience walking home without fear, that includes both races. As many peole have already mentioned, any Government should be educated enough to actually make the right decision for the best of everyone, look no further at the Coalition Govt of Britain and the amazing speech that was delivered by a “black” president from the US at Mandela’s funeral. Both white and black people I have worked with at the time stopped to listen only to that speech and I could see the respect for that person in the eyes of innocent people aspiring every word he has spoken! As a politician of this country I think I would have been ashamed . There is certainly a shift in mentality of many black peole in this country as well, they are still working for R2,000 per month while some of their brothers doesn’t know what poverty means! These are the peole of the Nation who will at some point realise the Govt is perhaps not the peole best places to look after their interest and will change their votes, well so I and many peole here can only hope and pray. I am a qualified accountant with many other qualifications and think I am better qualified and with International Banking experience than most of Senior Management in the last Company I have consulted in and yes sadly I too dont seem to be able to find a work over here .. I am British born and wish for nothing more but to embrace this new vibrance I. my country and to be able to be close to my family who needs me, but it certainly isn’t easy. Maybe with all the new resources found in Mozambique, America and Britian would be keen again to invest I. this country and things will hopefully change. Just remember there are just as many educated black peole in too country now as anywhere else in the world and I am sure they may stumble upon this blog, hopefully we are the one’s that could save this country..

If we are to judge a place or a person by a single event like this unfortunate story, all places would be terrible… but all places would undoubtedly be great too. I’ve met some great cops, both black and white in this country who went out of their way to help me, on their own time. It’s not a black and white deal here people… I read most of the comments left here by my fellow countrymen and it saddens me to think that so many of you see your home through such an embittered, grey and fearful lens. The fact that we as a nation avoided civil war was a consequence of much more than the hard work and dedication the father of our nation tirelessly put in. I was here during our transition towards our fledgling democracy. I felt the air of forgiveness and witnessed the courage and the desire of countless of South Africans, of all creeds, races and colours, working together to build a new country. The heart cares not for race or colour. Blood is always red. Things haven’t worked out like any of us planned – life never does. Corruption and violence affects us all. White and black. Period.
