Monsanto can't explain how GMO wheat survived
Monsanto claims it has no idea how its herbicide-resistant strain of wheat made its way onto an Oregon field. The global biotech giant based in Missouri says it abandoned research on it in 2004 and is mystified by its emergence nearly a decade later.
Monsanto tested the GMO varieties in 17 US states between 1998 and 2004. Although it also tested the GM wheat in Oregon, the company claims it destroyed...
Japanese discovery of Monsanto GMO wheat threatens US exports
The discovery of a Monsanto-created, genetically modified strain of wheat in the US that was never approved by the United States Department of Agriculture has imperiled US exports of a staple world food commodity.
Japanese authorities have already opted to cancel part of a tender offer to buy US western white wheat and have suspended imports of both that variety and feed wheat, Reuters reported on...
US Approves pesticide linked to mass bee deaths as EU Bans It
In the wake of a massive US Department of Agriculture report highlighting the continuing large-scale death of honeybees, environmental groups are left wondering why the Environmental Protection Agency has decided to approve a “highly toxic” new pesticide.
The continuing mass death of honeybees, known scientifically as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and a “pollinator crisis,” could...
'Monsanto Protection Act' slips silently through US Congress
The US House of Representatives quietly passed a last-minute addition to the Agricultural Appropriations Bill for 2013 last week – including a provision protecting genetically modified seeds from litigation in the face of health risks.
The rider, which is officially known as the Farmer Assurance Provision, has been derided by opponents of biotech lobbying as the “Monsanto Protection Act,”...
New 'Monsanto Protection Act' Gives Monsanto Power Over US Government
There truly is no rest for the wicked, and Monsanto is at war once again against health conscious consumers with the latest ‘Monsanto Protection Act‘, managing to sneak wording into the latest Senate legislation that would give them blanket immunity from any USDA action regarding the potential dangers of their genetically modified creations while under review. The USDA would be unable to act against...
USDA Set to Approve Horse Meat Slaughter in the US
Apparently horse meat is popular all over the world, albeit unbeknownst to most consumers. And it seems equine meat will soon be making its way back to America.
Horse meat hasn’t been legally produced in the United States since 2007, but the USDA is expected to approve a horse slaughterhouse in New Mexico within the next two months, according to the New York Times.
Stephanie Storm of the New York...
USDA revises crop estimates dramatically lower
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) gave its assessment of the historic drought Friday, forecasting national corn production at 10.8 billion bushels, down 13% from 2011 and the lowest production since 2006.
The report is the USDA’s first official assessment of the impact of the drought that has hit the Corn Belt and is considered to be the worst since 1956.
The government report said corn...
Organic foods to be poisoned with Neotame
Disclaimer: The following story may be in error. We have received an email where we were told that Neotame is not allowed in US Organic Food.
Just when we thought that buying “Organic” was safe, we run headlong into the deliberate poisoning of our organic food supply by the FDA in collusion with none other than the folks who brought us Aspartame. NutraSweet, a former Monsanto asset, has developed...
