greta thunberg stand with gaza

Greta Thunberg states that she has not been “radicalized” and that she will continue to criticize what she describes as Israel’s ongoing genocide of the population of Gaza.

Greta Thunberg and three other representatives of Swedish Fridays for Future respond in a debate article in The Guardian to the criticism they have received for their stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The tone has been very high. Among other things, Svenska Dagbladet has called Greta a “girl-Hitler” in a leadership position.

In the debate article, Greta writes that she and the others have not been radicalized or politicized, which they are accused of.

“We have always been political, because we have always been a movement for justice. Standing in solidarity with Palestinians and all affected civilians has always been obvious to us.”

Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7 “can in no way legitimize Israel’s ongoing war crimes,” according to Greta.

“Genocide is not self-defence, and this is in no way a proportionate response. Nor can it be ignored that this is occurring within the wider context of Palestinians living under suffocating oppression for decades, in what Amnesty International has defined as an apartheid regime. Although all this in itself would be reason enough to comment on the situation, we as a Swedish movement also have a responsibility to speak out because of Swedish military cooperation with Israeli arms companies, which makes Sweden complicit in Israel’s occupation and mass murder”.

Greta and her co-author are careful to point out that all Fridays for Future groups are independent, and that their article only represents FFF Sweden’s views.

  1. Standing WITH Gaza isn’t as bold and standing IN Gaza right now… There’s hardly two stones standing atop one another there.
