A fierce gun battle between Mexican soldiers and cartel operatives erupted at the southern border this week, according to reports.

On Friday at around 4 p.m., Mexican forces reportedly confronted armed criminals in the town of Sonoyta, just half a mile from the port of entry in Lukeville, Arizona, one of the busiest human smuggling and illegal migration corridors in the world.

John Fabbricatore, candidate for U.S. Congress in Colorado and retired field office director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, shared videos and information about the skirmish as it unfolded.

“Reports are coming in about a large firefight south of the Lukeville POE in AZ between the cartel and the Mexican military. Gunfire can be heard, and a small explosion. Possible vehicles are on fire. It is unusual for this type of direct contact between the cartel and GOM in that area,” Fabbricatore wrote on X on Friday afternoon.

Fabbricatore subsequently posted videos shot by witnesses showing a vehicle in flames, as well as a longer clip during which constant gunfire can be heard for over three minutes.

Footage shot from another angle shows cargo trucks passing by on a busy road very close to the action.

Sonoran authorities provided an update on Friday night, saying, “Five detainees, tactical equipment, weapons and 13 vehicles seized after an operation against criminal groups in Sonoyta.”

“At this moment, an operation coordinated by SEDENA, National Guard, State Police, AMIC and Municipal Police is active to preserve the tranquility of the inhabitants of the area.”

Chaos unfolds constantly along the U.S.-Mexico border, as Infowars regularly reports.
