The Canadian government has plans to accept Arabs from Gaza despite already high Arab immigration and the fact that record numbers of Canadians are receiving welfare to afford food. Now criticism is growing against the country’s left-liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Trudeau’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller announced the government plans to fly in “extended families” of Canadians in war-torn Gaza on temporary three-year visas starting Jan. 9.
In practice, it is about extended dependent immigration where anyone who is “the spouse, common-law partner, child (of any age), grandchild, sibling, parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident immigrant” will be eligible to come to Canada – as well as their immediate family members.
Thus, entire Arab families are now expected to be able to move directly from Gaza to Canada without having in any way qualified to immigrate to the Western country.
However, Miller mentioned that the government would be flexible and that the definition could be “expanded” to “allow us a larger group of people who may not be permanent residents or Canadians”.
The decision comes at a time when Canadians are becoming increasingly worried about the economy.
The use of social assistance to get food among ordinary Canadians is at a record high, and many are questioning why the government is preparing to welcome more refugees into the country, especially given the already record high immigration.
Last month, analysis showed that the use of so-called food banks had reached “unthinkable levels” in Canada, with more than 1.9 million visits to food banks in March alone.
This is the highest number recorded since statistics began to be kept in 1989.
