Angela Merkel’s successor, CDU leader Friedrich Merz, demands that immigrants should only be able to obtain citizenship in Germany if they swear allegiance – to Israel.
According to Merz, anyone who wants to become a German citizen should fulfill a number of requirements, including a requirement to make a pledge of allegiance to the Israeli state.
The requirements must include a permanent assurance from those who will be granted citizenship to support Israel’s security, which is ultimately a fundamental interest of the German state, Merz told Tagesspiegel and continues:
Anyone who does not sign this has no place in Germany.
You would think the requirement would be to swear allegiance to Germany but…. no, that’s not required…. it is required to swear allegiance to another country…. this goes somewhat unprotested because of the rocky history Israel has but imagine any other country…. imagine Germany requiring immigrants to swear allegiance to Russia for example…. wouldn’t it be ridiculous?
