Andrew Miller, a transgender individual who identifies as Amy George, is currently appealing against his sentence after being convicted of a horrifying crime involving the abduction and sexual abuse of a young girl over a 27-hour period.
The incident occurred when Miller, dressed as a woman, offered a lift to a primary school-aged girl whom he had never met before. He then took her to his residence in the Scottish Borders, where he subjected her to multiple assaults, described by a judge as “every parent’s worst nightmare.”
Last week, at the High Court in Edinburgh, Miller received a 28-year extended sentence, consisting of 20 years in prison and an additional eight years on supervised licence in the community. However, the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh has confirmed that an appeal against this sentence has been lodged on Miller’s behalf.
Previously, Miller pleaded guilty to charges of abduction, sexual assault, exposing the child to pornography, and possessing 242 indecent images of children. Judge Lord Arthurson, during sentencing, characterized Miller’s actions as “brazen and chilling,” labeling them as “uniquely appalling” and “the realization of every parent’s worst nightmare.”
During the trial, it was revealed that Miller is undergoing a gender transition. The young victim was held captive in Miller’s home for 27 hours, enduring repeated assaults and being forced to watch pornography. She managed to call emergency services while Miller, wearing women’s undergarments, was asleep.
Miller attempted to justify his actions by claiming he offered the girl a lift because she was cold and asserted that having her sleep in his bed was a nurturing gesture.
Following Miller’s arrest, authorities discovered 242 indecent images of children on laptops seized from his residence. Consequently, he has been added to the sex offenders register.
Miller’s incarceration has sparked controversy due to his transgender identity. He has been detained in a male prison, prompting discussions about transgender individuals in correctional facilities following the case of transgender rapist Isla Bryson, who was housed in a female prison earlier in the year.
