The Pentagon is preparing to send 2,000 troops to the Middle East to support Israel’s military, according to defense officials.
The troops, which were selected from across the armed services, would reportedly not service combat roles and would instead advise and provide medical support to Israel’s army, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The troops are currently already stationed in the Middle East and in Europe, but no members of the infantry have been given “prepare-to-deploy” orders.
“It isn’t clear under what circumstances the U.S. could deploy the troops or to where, but the Pentagon decision signaled it is preparing to support Israeli troops should Israel launch a ground incursion into Gaza,” the WSJ reported.
This comes two days after the Biden administration deployed aircraft and two aircraft carrier strike groups to Israel and the Mediterranean.
This also comes just a day after Joe Biden, who reiterated that the U.S. has an “obligation” to defend both Ukraine and Israel, assured that he wouldn’t send troops to the Middle East.
“I don’t think that’s necessary. Israel has one of the finest fighting forces in the country,” Biden told 60 Minutes’ Scott Pelley.
“We can take care of both of these and still maintain our overall international defense. We have the capacity to do this and we have an obligation to. We are the essential nation, to, to paraphrase the former secretary of State. And if we don’t who does?”

Biden’s National Security Council spokesman John Kirby also stressed last Thursday that Israel did not want foreign troops on its soil for assistance in its war with Hamas.
“There are no intentions, no plans to put American troops on the ground in combat,” Kirby said.
Iran also asserted Monday that it considers the U.S already “militarily involved” in the Israel-Palestine conflict and will hold America “accountable.”
It appears that Biden is slow-walking America into another protracted foreign conflict that could escalate into a full-fledged regional forever war or worse.
