Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is now making further demands to admit Sweden into NATO. Now he wants the negotiations on Turkish membership in the EU to be resumed.
First: Open the way for Turkey’s membership in the European Union and then we will open up for Sweden, as we did for Finland, says Erdogan.
The move came before Erdogan left Ankara to travel to Vilnius and attend the NATO summit there.
In Vilnius later today he will meet Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The EU put the membership negotiations with Turkey on hold as a result of the coup attempt in the country in 2016 and its aftermath.
