A clear majority of immigrants who come from non-Nordic countries “can’t imagine” doing military service for Sweden, recent figures show.
Subsidies, benefits and high wages for unqualified jobs are among the factors that attract immigrants from the third world to Sweden. But when young immigrants of non-Nordic descent find out that they may have to do Swedish military service, the attitude towards the Swedish system is suddenly very negative, reports SVT.
32 percent of immigrants believe that conscription provides “little or no opportunity at all” for personal development, compared to only 18 percent among Swedes.
53 percent of immigrants “cannot imagine doing military service”, according to SVT, compared to 38 percent “for the total”. How low the percentage who cannot imagine doing military service is among Swedes is something that SVT does not want to say, but it should be around 18 percent.
