The Michigan House of Representatives passed a “hate speech bill” this week called HB 4474, which allows felony charges to be pressed against individuals who call someone by the “wrong” gender pronoun.
Under the new bill, offenders would be “guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 5 years, or by a fine of not more than $10,000.”
Individuals could also be charged under the bill if they used words that cause a person to “feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened.”
HB 4474 was passed by Michigan’s Democrat-controlled State House via a 59-50 vote and will move to the Michigan State Senate next.
If the Michigan State Senate passes the bill, it would then go to Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer who is expected to sign the anti-free speech legislation.
