The EU plan on the forced distribution of asylum seekers – which the Swedish government voted for with the support of SD – is being increasingly criticized. In several countries, there are now demands for a referendum on the issue.
The immigration pact agreed upon by the Council of Ministers means that asylum seekers must be forcibly distributed from southern European to northern and central European countries according to a quota system.
Countries that refuse to accept their share are fined around a quarter of a million kroner per denied immigrant.
In Sweden, the SD has shown its support for the forced distribution, but in other EU countries the criticism is very harsh from a conservative point of view.
In Poland, which voted against the proposal, the parliament has launched a video campaign against the quota system and is about to pass a resolution giving the government the right to veto the proposal at the next EU summit. reports. Austria’s largest party, the FPÖ, is also demanding a referendum. Party leader Herbert Kickl accuses the government of having “stabbed the Austrians in the back” by voting for the pact.
Sharp criticism also comes from Alternative for Germany, AFD, which describes the EU’s immigration pact as extremely dangerous. The claim that the new rules would make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to avoid seeking asylum in the first safe country they arrive at is just a hoax, according to AFD spokesman Gottfried Curio.
In the Czech Republic, the opposition is furious that the government voted for the proposal. Opposition leader Andrej Babis calls it “an incredible betrayal”.
It hardly needs to be said that people are not particularly satisfied with the forced distribution in Hungary. Prime Minister Viktor Orban was quick to accuse the EU of trying to “forcefully turn Hungary into a country of immigrants” and call the pact “unacceptable”.
