A fatal shooting that left two men dead at a Mercedes-Benz factory in Germany may have been the result of political differences between Turkish citizens, according to reports.

The shocking incident unfolded just before 8 a.m. on Thursday in Sindelfingen, a city in the state of Baden-Württemberg known for a large plant owned by the Daimler Group.

Police were called to the facility after a male suspect shot two victims to death inside a production hall known as Factory 56, where luxury S-Class sedans are produced.

“According to the current status of the investigation, a 53-year-old man entered the hall at around 7:45 a.m. and shot two people. Plant security employees arrested the suspect in the hall and handed him over to the police, who provisionally arrested him without resistance,” German authorities explained in a press release.

The victims, both 44 years old, later died from their injuries.

The story garnered widespread international coverage, but little information about the suspected shooter, victims, or possible motives was made public by authorities or mainstream media.

However, a handful of media outlets and reporters have uncovered key details about the case.

“The investigators accuse the 53-year-old Turk of manslaughter in two cases, as announced by the public prosecutor and the police on Thursday,” WELT reports.

“According to information from police circles, the suspect is said to be an opponent of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The two fatalities are also Turkish citizens. Whether the act was politically motivated, however, is unclear. Elections are being held in Turkey on Sunday.”

Some prominent Turkish social media users are claiming the suspect is a member of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), one of the largest and oldest factions in Turkey.

“All available evidence shows that the incident that resulted in the death of two of our citizens at the Mercedes Sindelfingen Factory was political,” reported Tuğrul Selmanoğlu.

“‘I shot two Erdoganists,’ says Murat Demir, while handing over his gun. The attacker is known for his pro-CHP videos on TikTok under the name Laz Muro.”

“Two Turkish citizens working at Mercedes company in Sindelfingen, Germany were shot and killed by a PKK terrorist they were arguing with,” Avrupali Türkler reported.

Germany’s populist-nationalist AfD party responded to the reports, demanding the government stop ‘importing foreign conflicts.’

“It is an alarm signal for the state of our public safety when murders no longer take place only in hidden back alleys and at night, but in broad daylight in a Mercedes plant. But that is exactly what happened in Sindelfingen in Baden-Württemberg: A 53-year-old man shot two work colleagues there,” AfD asserted in a statement.

“The shooting was apparently triggered by a dispute over the upcoming presidential election in Turkey – the two fatalities are said to have spoken out in favor of the incumbent Turkish President Erdogan, while the perpetrator is said to be an opponent of Erdogan.”

Mercedes-Benz addressed the incident, saying the persons involved were “employees of an external service provider.”

An investigation is ongoing.

Despite migrants continuing to perpetrate heinous acts of violence in Germany, officials and mainstream media frequently warn citizens against developing ‘anti-immigrant’ sentiments.

Last week, a Syrian suspect was arrested for gunning down another Syrian man in the German town of Lüdenscheid.
