A man was shot dead near France’s most iconic avenue in what authorities are calling a ‘settling of scores’ between Africans over the weekend, according to reports.

The disturbing incident unfolded on Saturday night just meters from the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

A 48-year-old man was shot in the chest outside the Jet Set Club in the 8th arrondissement at around midnight.

A man inside the restaurant reportedly jumped from his seat as soon as he saw the victim, drew a handgun, and executed him on the spot.

Authorities learned security guards at the club had broken up a fight between the two men the night before.

The victim had returned to the club to thank the bouncers for calming the fight, which was reportedly over a debt.

“The first elements collected show that the two men, from the Malian community, knew each other and had routines in the neighborhood,” Le Parisien reports.

The victim was found to also be carrying a handgun at the time of his death.

The perpetrator was still on the loose as of the latest available updates.

“With about 120,000 nationals, the Malian community in France is one of the largest black African diasporas in France,” Le Monde reported in 2013.

A heated debate over violent crime and lawlessness tied to mass migration has been raging in France.

Military leaders have fired off multiple incendiary letters in recent years, warning the Macron government of looming “civil war” if strong measures are not taken to regain control of a society spiraling into chaos.
