A young boy is recovering from a stab wound suffered when he was attacked by a knife-wielding suspect in Germany this week, according to reports.
The disturbing incident unfolded on Thursday in Halle an der Saale, a city in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
A 7-year-old boy was stabbed by a man in the Hallmarkt, a square near the city center.
The assailant fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later.
“The 60-year-old suspect was arrested for the time being. A police tracking dog was also used in the search for the alleged perpetrator. Extensive criminal investigations have been initiated,” Welt reports.
“Police say the suspect was sober at the time of the arrest.”
The boy was taken to hospital and treated for his wounds, which are not considered life-threatening.
Authorities have not released many details about the suspect or his motives, which is typical in crimes committed by migrants in Germany.
An investigation is ongoing.
