Sam Brinton, a former senior official and LGBTQ activist, has now been detained by police in connection with the alleged thefts of women’s apparel.
Sam Brinton, who served as the United States’ nuclear fuel disposal agency’s deputy director, was let go on Monday. Brinton, a prominent transgender and LGBTQ activist, is suspected of taking luggage stuffed with women’s apparel from Minneapolis and Las Vegas airports.
A Las Vegas court issued an arrest warrant for Brinton last week. When Brinton was detained and charged on Wednesday in Las Vegas, the order was put into effect, according to Fox News.
Following the court proceeding, Brinton was granted parole on the condition that he pay a bail of $15,000, or around 150,000 SEK. The bond was set in place as a guarantee that Brinton would show up in court for a subsequent hearing when the veracity of the theft in Las Vegas allegations would be examined.
Brinton will have to make another court appearance on Monday of the following week. After that, Brinton will be put on trial for stealing a luggage from the Minneapolis airport. There were women’s clothes in the luggage, which belonged to a female tourist as well.
Brinton has confessed taking the suitcase at the Minneapolis airport, but he believes it was an error, according to material in the indictment. However, the authorities claim that when Brinton took the flight to Minneapolis, he did not check any bags. Therefore, he shouldn’t have had any motive to gather any bags at all.
The suitcase containing the women’s clothing was left in a hotel room when Brinton realized his “error,” but he claimed to have taken the bag with him after that. According to the police, Brinton was requested to return the luggage but did not.
Brinton could spend ten years in jail for the theft from Las Vegas and five years in prison for the theft from Minneapolis if found guilty.
