Amidst heightened tensions in the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, a truck explosion on the bridge connecting Russia to Crimea has claimed three lives, according to Russia’s Investigative Committee. The victims are believed to be passengers of a car near the exploded truck, and efforts are underway to identify them. The truck’s details and owner, registered in Russia’s Krasnodar region, have been established, prompting an investigation into the owner’s residence.
Reports from Ukraine indicated an early morning bridge explosion, while Russia’s RIA news agency cited a fuel tank fire. Constructed in 2018 to link Crimea to Russia’s mainland, the bridge serves as a critical supply route for Russia’s southern army in Ukraine. The Ukrainian counteroffensive has increased pressure on Russian forces, making the bridge’s integrity crucial for resupply efforts.
The attack on the bridge is a significant setback for Putin’s war efforts, noted Mick Ryan, a retired army Major General, describing it as “certainly a punch in the face for Putin.” RIA reported a burning fuel tank on the bridge, with officials working to contain the fire and assess reasons and consequences.
Social media images indicated a collapsed road span and fires in multiple railway trucks on the bridge. OSINT investigators questioned initial Russian claims, suggesting a top-down blast rather than a train explosion. The bridge spans the Kerch Strait and was constructed by Russia after annexing Crimea, boasting a length of 12 miles—the longest in Europe.
While rail traffic is set to resume in the evening, the Transport Ministry announced the bridge’s reopening to road traffic on undamaged lanes. Ukraine’s recent striking successes, including the Saky airbase attack in August, have fueled confidence in their ability to retake Crimea. The ongoing Kherson counteroffensive in southern Ukraine has reportedly put Russian forces in a “defensive crouch,” according to a senior US military official.

This act of terrorism shows just how desperate Ukraine, NATO and the West are in trying to provoke a response from Putin, Zelensky has even demanded that Biden launch a preemptive nuclear attack against Russia in case Putin uses nuclear weapons first against Ukraine, something that Putin has never said he would do. It is difficult to figure out who is more insane, Biden or Zelensky. Bridges can easily be repaired, and Russia has all the time in the world to deal with Zelensky and the West.
