Russians in Estonia

A new legislation mandates that police may forcibly seize weapons from Russian citizens residing in Estonia if they refuse to surrender them freely.

The confiscation of firearms will also apply to Belarusians who reside in the nation of eastern Europe.

The bill’s specifics have been decided upon by the government, and it will now be presented to the legislature for approval.

Kaja Kallas, the prime minister of Estonia, said that it was “impossible for her to evaluate” whether or not she anticipated gun owners to comply.

“In any event, we will submit this proposed bill to the Riigikogu while the current administration is in office. There is already agreement on this, and a timeframe has been established. After this deadline has passed, the police will take control, she warned. “We will surely give individuals time to voluntarily hand over their firearms.

Russians and Belarusians “with guns in their hands constitute a threat to the security of Estonia,” Kallas claimed, citing the “present conditions.”

Russian nationals who reside in Estonia already risk having their property seized by the government.

Only 629 registered gun owners will be required to surrender their weapons in total.

Is Estonia’s security so lacking that a force of only a few hundred soldiers can endanger them? who presumably aren’t all that interested in leading a bloody domestic uprising against the government?

History demonstrates that minority groups who give up their right to self-defense in reaction to political pressure typically don’t do so well.
