Next month, The Satanic Temple (TST) intends to hold a “After School Satan Club” back-to-school event at a high school in Pennsylvania.
According to Fox 43, officials from the Northern York County School District gave their approval on Tuesday for the event to be held at Northern High School in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania.
The same town of Dillsburg is where a local school board rejected TST’s request to hold a “After School Satan Club” event at an elementary school in April, according to a story from Breitbart News at the time.
Back in April, parents and locals voiced their emphatic objections to the group holding a gathering in the neighborhood.
According to Fox 34, a resident of Perry County named Jennifer McAllister claimed back in April that it was “simply ridiculous” that “they already pulled God out of schools now they’re going to invite Satan in.”
Another mom, Laura Vangeli, stated at the time through WHP, “There is a lot of evil existing in our society, so to allow it to come into our school and our community is not OK.”
According to a temple spokeswoman, the incident should be interpreted similarly to the statute protecting religious liberty.
Co-founder of TST Lucien Graves stated, “We’re talking about upholding fundamental pillars of democracy and the First Amendment.”
According to Fox 34, “the Northern York County School District issued a statement regarding the event, saying that it does not encourage the behavior of outside organizations who utilize its facilities.”
In May, parents and other opponents prayed and mobilized to prevent TST from conducting a similar “After School Satan Club” program at a Greensboro, North Carolina primary school.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision in June to overturn Roe v. Wade, TST saw itself as a “beacon of light” in advocating for pro-abortion policy. According to the temple’s website, “Satanic abortions are protected under religious liberty regulations.”
The temple stated that the IRS has recognized it as a “church” with tax-exempt status.
