Russia has stolen a collection of precious gold from a museum in Melitopol, writes the New York Times. The information comes from Ukraine.
The newspaper has spoken to staff from the museum who state that the gold was hidden, but that the Russians somehow found it anyway.
– The orcs have taken our Scythian gold, says the city mayor.
The more than 2,300-year-old gold was the museum’s most valuable collection and originated from the Scythians, a nomadic people who lived during the Iron Age on the steppes of Asia and Europe.
According to museum director Leila Ibrahimova, the gold was hidden in a dark cellar for fear of looting.
– We knew that at any time someone could enter the museum with a weapon. The collection is invaluable, she tells the New York Times.
According to Ibrahimova, a man in a white lab coat and a group of Russian soldiers must have gone to the museum’s female caretaker and ordered her to pick up the gold at gunpoint. However, she refused to do anything.
In the end, the Russians found the hiding place anyway, and the gold disappeared, according to Ibrahimova. The Russians are now said to have appointed the Ukrainian Evgeny Gorlachev as the new museum director of the Russian army, and according to her, he is the one who helped the Russians find the gold.
Well this isn’t the first time the Russian orcs are stealing gold from other countries. In fact they have a very long history of doing that.
