Spanish police arrested multiple African ‘youths’ who disrupted a procession for Holy Week, according to reports.
The disturbing incident unfolded on Sunday evening in El Vendrell, a town in the province of Tarragona in Catalonia.
A group of ‘young people’ gathered along the route of the march which typically occurs on Palm Sunday but has been restricted for the past two years during the COVID crisis.
Local residents realized the suspects had “bad intentions” and warned others their “objective was to boycott the procession,” Antena 3 reports.
“Those who were present asked for respect as the religious images passed by, but they ignored the requests and continued with their plan. Moreover, some of the individuals in the group came to confront those who asked them for respect.”
Police moved in on the agitators and skirmishes broke out.

“Easter procession in El Vendrell (Tarragona), arrests of North Africans by the local police, people applauding the police action. The usual associations and their politicians will turn it around in order not to lose,” the Association of Public and Private Security Professionals wrote on Twitter.
Bystanders could be seen cheering as at least two male suspects were hauled away in handcuffs.
One of the young men could be heard crying as he was being handcuffed.
Authorities are reportedly working to identify more of the suspects involved in the disturbance.
