A 17-year-old was arrested this Thursday around 8 p.m. in the Monnaie district of Romans-sur-Isère (Drôme) for motorcycle rodeos. Urban violence ensued for hours on end.

Around 8 p.m. this Thursday, the Municipal Police of Romans arrested a 17-year-old young man doing motorcycle rodeos in the Monnaie district. He is placed in custody. The security forces immediately suffered a few projectiles, but managed to disperse the group.

But later in the evening, around 11 p.m., the neighborhood caught fire. About fifty hooded or masked individuals attack the building of Indexia (ex-SFAM). They smash windows with rocks and steal a company vehicle. They burn two cars and a dozen garbage cans also in the neighborhood.

The police are the targets of projectiles and about thirty mortar fire. None are injured. The police use tear gas and manage to restore calm around 2 a.m.

An arrest described as violent by the family

The family of the young man arrested on a motorcycle denounces violence during his arrest. His sister tells us that the police “hit him in the car” to intercept him and “they hit him once he was on the ground.” A video of the damaged bumper of the municipal police car next to a green motocross turns on the social network Snapchat.

The National Police indicates for its part that this young person is “not injured. He was taken to the hospital which pronounced 0 days of ITT and was then placed in custody. An investigation is underway to clarify the circumstances of his arrest.

As we know by now, whenever the media uses the term “youths” what they refer to are young non-European men.
