On Wednesday, an Uzbek migrant was arrested by authorities Östersund, Sweden on the suspicion that he was about to commit a terrorist act.

At one point, the Uzbek migrant was held up as a shining example of migrant integration by a local Swedish newspaper, according to Nyheter Idag.

The man, who’s in his thirties, was reported to have been driving close to the Stortorget square in Östersund when he was pulled over by armed police. After investigators found items in his car which led them to believe he had been preparing for a potential murder, the man was arrested, Nyheter Idag reports.

Following the arrest, both the prosecutor’s office and the Swedish security police Sapo were able to link a potential terrorist motive to the Uzbek’s actions.

A witness of the arrest told reporters that he thought the man was being pulled over for being drunk. The onlooker said the situation became more clear and things got more serious after police pulled out weapons from the man’s vehicle.

The man had previously deported from the country in 2016 but had returned on a temporary residence permit, according to the Swedish evening paper Expressen.

The migrant first came to Sweden in 2012 claiming asylum on grounds that his family members’ lives were threatened because his father had prosecuted a mafia boss. He later acknowledged that the story was false.

Nyheter Idag reported on how a local newspaper had lauded the family for their model integration into Swedish society. The article which Nyheter Idag quotes identifies the suspect as Dilshod Usmanov.

Apparently, the fact that Usmanov and his wife were able to learn Swedish and get jobs as healthcare assistants was worthy of praise in a newspaper.

Upon being arrested, Usmanov told police investigators that he felt threatened and pressured to carry out a terrorist attack. As a result, Prosecutor Henrik Olin believes that another person was probably involved.
