The Spanish government has announced that the Spanish NGO Proactiva’s ship ‘Open Arms’ – which is currently holding 107 migrants the south Mediterranean – can make its way to Spain to offload the migrants in Algeciras.

On Sunday, Italy’s National Populist Interior Minister Matteo Salvini ordered the migrant ferry to vacate Italian waters immediately to go Spain, the Associated Press reports. Salvini believes that the ship ‘Open Arms’ is anchored off the coast of Italy’s southern island Lampedusa “just to provoke me and Italy.”

The crew onboard the migrant ferry have described conditions on the ship as “miserable” since it has been 17 days since it picked up the migrants off the Libyan coast.

On Thursday, the French weekly L’Express reported that six EU member states – France, Germany, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and Luxembourg – said that they would receive the migrants.

Romania of all countries wants to take them in? They are the poorest country in Europe with the lowest wages ranging from only 200 to 300 Euros per month. Old people die of starvation and lack of medicines yet they offer to take in Arab invaders? How can the Romanian people accept this and not revolt and hang the traitors who lead them? This is unacceptable!

But Salvini wasn’t having any of it, telling the ship that if it wanted to offload migrants at a European port, it would have to do it in Spain.

The NGO Proactiva in charge of the Open Arms ship hasn’t said whether or not it will go to Spain. If they were to head to Spain it would take them several day of sailing. The NGO contends that Salvini is using the 107 for “xenophobic and racist propaganda.”

Earlier this month, Matteo Salvini signed a decree which forbids NGO migrant ferries from entering Italy’s waters without the government’s permission. The decree allows the Italian government to fine NGO ships who defy the order up to one million euros.
