On Monday, broadcaster SVT informed its readers about the damage that hand grenades can cause normal Swedish families.
The article is mocked on social media because Christmas time usually means warnings about forgotten Advent candles.
But the information on SVT is slightly different this year, an image and film of a family that is blown up by a hand grenade in their kitchen.
“Criminals in Sweden are increasingly using hand grenades – a trend that exposes innocent civilians to great danger… When you throw a grenade you have a danger area of about 300 meters”, SVT writes.
The kitchen window flies open with the bang, and the dolls in the film, which represent the family, are peppered with shrapnel.
Hand grenades are undoubtedly deadly and those who find a grenade should never touch or pick it up, the viewers are told.
People are mocking the article on social media. In the old Sweden it was enough to inform about the dangers of leaving candles unattended, they argue.
“In the past, you showed what damage forgotten Advent lights around Christmas can cause”, writes a user.
“Times have changed. To say the least”, writes another.
The SVT article is published the same day as it is revealed that the number of hand grenade attacks in Sweden has increased dramatically in recent years, with a total of 116 blasts in eight years. Some with fatal outcome.
