The former bastion of all that is British, M&S, no longer represents traditional Britain. Instead, Marks & Spencer have seemingly sold out to become Mohammad & Sharia.

The high street chain has caused a storm by offering a hijab for young children in their shops and online in their school-wear category.

Response from the public has been extreme, with people publicly tweeting their disgust of trying to profit on the ‘medievalism’ of selling something that many view as oppressive, something even ‘toddler girls in Saudi Arabia’ aren’t forced to do.

One such message to M&S from Aussie commentator Rita Panahi exclaims that: “This is vile Marks and Spencer. Modesty culture is backward & subjugating but even in Saudi Arabia toddler girls aren’t required to cover their hair.”

Another comment by a Maajid Nawaz shows the anger of the public, he said in a series of tweets: “Marks and Spencer facilitates medievalism by selling children’s hijabs in the school-wear category.

“It’s their right to choose profit over values. But it’s our right to shame them for doing so. Little girls are told it is ‘immodest’ to show their hair. And blessed be the fruit.”

Others asked ridiculous questions to highlight the shop’s foolishness in choosing to sell the hijab for children at a time when women in Iran, for example, are fighting against risk of harm to be free of the hijab. Many of the reactions clearly display the intensity of their opposition to them.

An angry Yasmine Mohammed said: “F*ck you so much Marks and Spencer. From the bottom of my heart, sincerely, f*ck you.”

Another twitter user said: “No. Don’t f*cking do this! Kids shouldn’t have to cover, nobody should but especially not little girls. “There’s too many families forcing little girls to do this for it to be commercialised and applauded like this.”
