The city was on lockdown after the gunman went on a rampage.

Dramatic scenes unfolded in central Copenhagen as police rushed to the scene, responding to reports of gunfire. Terrified onlookers fled while officers, armed and on high alert, engaged with an armed man. Witnesses recounted a series of gunshots, and the assailant was reportedly shot by police before being taken to the hospital. The condition of the individual remains uncertain.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, according to police statements. Henrik Møller Jakobsen, deputy police inspector in Copenhagen Police, assured that the matter is under investigation, with the Independent Police Complaints Authority summoned to review the case. The incident, which occurred at Tivoli Gardens, is currently not believed to be terror-related, as stated by authorities.

Local pub owner Michael, who witnessed the events, described hearing multiple gunshots just as he was about to open his pub. He provided refuge to shocked individuals, including tourists, in the aftermath of the incident.

Footage from the scene shows armed police with raised guns surrounding HC Andersens Boulevard. Witnesses reported that the police were actively searching for one or more individuals before opening fire.

The US Embassy in Copenhagen issued a cautionary statement urging people to avoid the area surrounding Tivoli Gardens. While the situation is now reportedly under control, chaos ensued in the vicinity. The embassy emphasized that there is no evidence suggesting the incident is terrorism-related.

As investigations unfold, speculations about the identity of the gunman have emerged, though it is important to await official information to ascertain the facts surrounding this unsettling event.
