Bernie Sanders was recently interviewed on Univision and the host asked him to comment on the collapse of the economy in the socialist paradise of Venezuela. Naturally, Bernie didn’t care to discuss it.

The Democrats’ socialist candidate for President of the United States, Bernie Sanders, was seriously tripped up this week in an interview with Univision’s León Krauze.
When asked to explain the failure of socialist governments in Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil, Sanders completely clammed up, saying he has an opinion on the subject, but was unwilling to share it, as he is “focused on my campaign.”
LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: I am sure that you know about this topic: various leftist governments, especially the populists, are in serious trouble in Latin America. The socialist model in Venezuela has the country near collapse. Argentina, also Brazil, how do you explain that failure?
BERNIE SANDERS, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE: You are asking me questions…
LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: I am sure you’re interested in that.
BERNIE SANDERS, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE: I am very interested, but right now I’m running for President of the United States.
LEÓN KRAUZE, UNIVISION: So you don’t have an opinion about the crisis in Venezuela?
BERNIE SANDERS, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE: Of course I have an opinion, but as I said, I’m focused on my campaign.
Isn’t it interesting that no one in the American media has thought to ask Bernie these questions?
It’s obviously just a coincidence.

Leon Krauze’s questions were invalid.
Krauze’s questions ASSUME, falsely, that Venezuelan socialism failed — though the nation’s troubles may be (likely are) effects of right-wing or foreign (U.S.) economic and political assaults, rather than a failure of socialist measures. Even if the current socialist regime has failed, one cannot infer, logically, that socialism failed Venezuela.
Brazil’s woes are the NOT the making socialism or socialist programs or measures, but of, e.g., corruption (outside the President’s office and outside her government and her Party), “austerity” measures, and a U.S.-fomented/U.S.-backed coup d’etat outwardly headed by a corrupt man who was (maybe remains) a paid U.S. informant and who has violated election rules and other laws of Brazil.

Argentina’s economy has NOT suffered because of socialist programs or measures, but for other (non-socialist) considerations, e.g., political corruption, “austerity” measures, and irresponsible monetary policy.
