US Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is “the consummate warmonger” who oversaw the destruction of Libya, an American writer and political analyst says.
Daniel Patrick Welch made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Sunday while commenting on Clinton’s backing of President Barack Obama’s decision to authorize the use of Special Operations troops in Syria.
Clinton “sees merit in the targeted use of Special Operations personnel to support our partners in the fight against ISIS [ISIL], including in Syria,” her campaign spokesman Nick Merrill said on Saturday.
Welch said that of course Hilary Clinton “backs sending US special forces into Syria. She has never met an imperial intervention she didn’t like. She is the consummate warmonger.”
“She oversaw the complete destruction of Libya without shedding a tear, even going so far as to say ‘we came, we saw, he died.’ This shouldn’t surprise anyone, unfortunately,” he added, referring to a Clinton comment about the murder of Muammar Gaddafi that was captured on camera when she was getting ready for an interview.
On Friday, the White House announced that the United States is sending Special Operations forces to Syria to “assist” militants fighting against the government and the Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group , in an apparent breach of Obama’s promise not to put US “boots on the ground” there.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest claimed that Obama was not backtracking on his promise not to put boots on the ground in Syria.
On Friday, Secretary of State John Kerry said that US officials had been discussing deploying Special Forces troops in Syria “for months.”
Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The crisis has claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people so far and displaced millions of others.
