A new study conducted by the Spanish researchers has demonstrated that being under stress at work can significantly increase cardiovascular health risks.
The study claims that the situation appears due to high blood fat levels, according to the study published in the ‘Scandinavian Journal of Public Health’.
The researchers suggest this abnormality in blood fat levels is related to dyslipidemia, a disorder that alters the levels of lipids and lipoproteins in the blood.
Over 90,000 workers were analyzed during the study concerned how much strain they were under at work.
“The workers who stated that they had experienced difficulties in dealing with their job during the previous twelve months (8.7% of the sample) had a higher risk of suffering from dyslipidemia,” said the clinical psychologist Carlos Catalina who is also an expert in work-related stress at the Sociedad de Prevencion de Ibermutuamur.
The study also reveals that the workers with work stress were more likely to suffer from high levels of LDL cholesterol (the so-called ‘bad’ cholesterol), excessively low levels of HDL cholesterol (the ‘good’ cholesterol).
The study was conducted by the researchers from Sociedad de Prevencion de Ibermutuamur, in collaboration with experts from the Virgen de la Victoria Hospital (Malaga) and the Santiago de Compostela University.
