A new research has revealed that four inexpensive products can avert the death risk of babies, who die on their birth day, an American non-profit organization announced.
Four products costing between 13 cents and USD 6 each can save the babies who are at the risk of death shortly after birth, according to the report released by ‘Save the Children’ organization that aims to improve the lives of children in need around the world.
The suggested products are beneficial in dealing with the leading causes of newborn deaths including prematurity, birth complications and severe infections.
Over one million babies die on their birth day every year worldwide, announced by the 14th annual State of the World’s Mothers report released in the run-up to Mother’s Day.
“It is hard to imagine the depth of one mother’s pain in losing her baby the very day she gives birth, let alone a million times over,” said the president and CEO of Save the Children, Carolyn Miles.
Resuscitation devices can help babies breathe, and the antiseptic chlorhexidine can prevent umbilical cord infections, according to Miles’ clarification on the products.
She also noted that injectable antibiotics can treat infections, and steroid injections for women in preterm labor can help premature babies’ lungs develop.
Though ‘Save the Children’ does not sell products, it works with numerous health officials and donors and through this way can make the products available.
