At least 25 people have lost their lives after torrential rains in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires triggered flooding, officials say.
“The bodies began to appear as the water subsided,” Daniel Scioli, governor of the coastal province of Buenos Aires where the flooding occurred, said on Wednesday.
The fatalities occurred in the city of La Plata, bringing the death toll to 33 this week following record heavy rains in Argentina.
A record 40 centimeters of rain fell on La Plata during a two-hour period, with parts of the downtown area reported to be 1.6 meters deep in water, while city streets turned into rivers.
The downpour knocked out phone lines and disrupted services, closing schools and local government offices.
On Tuesday, eight people were killed in the same storm system after dropping more than 15 centimeters of rain between midnight on Monday and early Tuesday.
