St. Petersburg authorities have slammed another Western celebrity for allegedly promoting homosexuality to minors. Lady Gaga’s recent show in the city is being investigated for ‘homosexual propaganda’ by the author of a controversial ‘anti-gay’ law.
The investigation is a result of accusations by Deputy Vitaly Milonov of the St. Petersburg legislative assembly following Lady Gaga’s December 9 show in the city.
Milonov claimed that the ‘Poker Face’ singer was “calling on minors to support LGBT organizations,” and also accused Gaga of “the illegal use of the Russian national flag and libel towards Russia.”
Earlier this week, Milonov personally spoke with Sergey Umnov of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Saint Petersburg and requested an investigation of the pop star’s show for homosexual propaganda.
Russian art and culture activists, sportsmen and other public figures have jointly asked Russian authorities to consider terminating Milonov’s deputy powers. Zenit FC goalkeeper Vyatcheslav Malofeev and Olympic champion Russian figure skating star Evgeny Plushchenko were among the many who signed the address.
In the address, they claim that Milonov’s initiatives harm St. Petersburg’s reputation and reinforce an image of the city as “the capital of homophobia and bigotry.”
