A shocking survey, representing 85 percent of the Arab world population, reveals that 73 out of every 100 respondents see Israel and the US as jointly posing the largest threat to the security of their countries.
The poll, conducted by the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) in twelve Arab countries, said 51 percent of the respondents believed Israel to be the first major threat to the Arab world, while 22 percent considered the United States as occupying that position.
This is while only 5 percent thought about Iran as the single country threatening the security of the Arab world.
The survey, known as the Arab Opinion Index report for 2011, was the largest of its kind and covered 12 countries.
The poll also found that 84 percent of the respondents are opposed to their countries diplomatically recognizing Israel, with only 21 percent of respondents expressing support for the peace agreements signed with the Israelis by Jordan, Egypt, and Palestine.
Moreover, 84 percent believe the Palestinian cause to be a cause for all Arabs, and not solely a Palestinian issue.
According to the poll, 55 percent support having the Middle East declared a nuclear-weapons-free zone, compared to 29 percent who would oppose such a move. The majority of the 55 percent believe Israel’s possession of nuclear weapons justifies possession of such weapons by other countries in the region.
A staggering 83 percent of the respondents said corruption is widespread in their countries and only 19 percent believed their countries’ legal systems treat all citizens equally.
Last week, American scholar Noam Chomsky said in an article that the world does not accept the US portrayal of Iran as an “imminent threat” to global peace, stressing that Washington and Tel Aviv are instead seen as the greatest evils.
“Europeans regard Israel as the greatest threat to world peace,” Chomsky said, adding that in the Arab world, “Israel and the US are regarded as the pre-eminent threat.”

If the global population could be polled, I reckon 75% would view the US and Israel as the biggest threats to our fragile little planet.
