Zuccotti Park is a block away from the New York Stock Exchange a usually quiet location, however for the past week it has transformed into the headquarters of “Occupy Wall Street”, the site of demonstrations calling on the US government to break its close ties with big banks and corporations.

The Protests have turned into what can be best described as anti-capitalist demonstrations attracting attention and support not only across the United States but around the world.

They have been here since Saturday, many sleeping on the hard floors and eating food paid by donors supporting their cause. They vow to stay indefinitely until they take back their government from what they call “Wall Street greed and corruption”.

On it’s website the group Occupy Wall Street writes “We, the people of the United States of America, considering the crisis at hand, now reassert our sovereign control of our land.”

They started at 1,500 strong and more are expected to join during the weekend.

Police watched the proceedings carefully after seven arrests were made Tuesday and reports of injuries circulated the news wires.

According to eye witness accounts police brutality started when NYPD sought to tear down tents and disrupt protests. An act demonstrators call unconstitutional.

It was at around sunset when hundreds gathered circling around Wall Street chanting slogans calling for economic equality. Frustrated at high unemployment rates and a staggering economy they called on the government to tax the rich, pay attention to the poor and rebuild the diminishing middle class.

  2. It isn’t anti capitalists, it’s anti criminal. Even in Europe if you can’t afford to gamble they don’t let you in. (Meaning if it’s going to destitute your family) This is a wall street gambling addiction with an open door to the vault thanks to Pappa Fed. Wall Street is not a science, it is not a game of skill, it’s a game of chance. I would call this “A Global Gambling Crisis” Get the 12 step program out
