Pakistanis gather by the rubble of a government building targeted in a bombing in the Pakistani town of Hangu, Friday, May 27, 2011.

At least eight people have been killed and 14 others left injured in a bomb explosion in a busy marketplace in northwestern Pakistan.

Mohammed Saeed, a doctor at the region’s hospital, said they have received four bodies. He said four others had died in the hospital due to severe injuries, AP reported Saturday.

Saeed also pointed out that some of the wounded are in critical condition.

According to the report, the blast took place at Pasht bazaar in Salarzai region in the tribal area of Bajaur Agency on Saturday morning, destroying several nearby shops, too.

The incident reportedly occurred in a restaurant where some anti-Taliban people had gathered, local government official Israr Khan said.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing. However, Taliban militants have carried out attacks in Salarzai region, knowing the residents have tried to drive them out of the region, locals said.

Security situation has worsened in northwestern tribal regions. At least 38 people were killed and 52 others were injured as a massive car bomb struck a police station in northwestern town of Hangu on Thursday.

Militants have also carried out assaults on police stations in different cities, killing and injuring dozens of police forces.

Militant attacks in Pakistan are on the rise as the Taliban has recently vowed to avenge the death of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden who was allegedly killed in an operation by US forces in Pakistan on May 2.
