France’s Europe minister, Pierre Lellouche, pressed Romania to tackle the question of “integration” of Roma communities on Monday.
He softened his tone from a week before by underscoring that all European states had a responsibility in which he laid the blame for France’s troubles with the community on Bucharest alone. However, he still stressed that this common responsibility “starts with the countries of origin” of Roma migrants.
“Everyone must mobilise. The responsibility for integration is first on the country of origin,” he said following a government meeting, reports AFP.
He added however that France and other countries “have a responsibility in terms of assistance and support,” and that Roma integration must be done “within the framework of European law.”
Mr Lellouche also said that he welcomed the creation of a Romanian government ministerial post dedicated to Roma integration, a “one-stop shop” with whom Paris could deal on the question of expelling gypsies and returning them to the eastern EU member state.
The establishment of such a post has long been demanded by the French government.
He also suggested that EU development funds delivered to Romania be used for dealing with the Roma question.
The EU’s “massive financial transfers … also apply to [Romania’s] minorities,” he continued.
“You cannot have on the one hand financial transfers from west to east and minority transfers in which issues are not addressed by the east in the west,” he said.
Last week, Mr Lellouche publicly chastised Bucharest for its dealings with the Roma community.
He accused the Romanian authorities of not living up to promises regarding the matter and that France had reservations about the country’s scheduled accession to the European borderless zone, Schengen, in 2011.
The comments come after France announced it is to destroy 300 Roma encampments, half of the some 600 that exist in the country, round up their occupants and deport them to Romania.

Europe has covered itself with so much red tape, they are suffocating themselves. I know I seemed a little cold with the Muslim response but there is a lot of animosity towards that group of people over right now and that is making people a little heartless to deport the Roma refugees. They are seen as undesirables and they no longer want to take care of them so yea, they are kind of like refugees. Europe and the rest of the world is starting to boil ever since the global recession and it is just going to get worst. Ha! to think we are going to all run out of oil within the next 100 years too.
India has its’ fair share of problems but the same problems haunt India as those in France and the rest of Europe. The sad fact is if you look similar to a group of people causing problems, you are a part of that problem. Right now their target is Muslims. That guy could have said Pakistan for all he cared, it was just the point that they no longer want people moving there and making demands to change the current culture into their own. The blind hatred brewing in the EU right now makes being any kind of foreigner a target.

It surpises me when a developing country like India with its 1+ billion people can try to deal with its problems, then why cant a developed EU with all its resources at its disposal?

i was involved in a funny situation when I encountered an indian man in my country in a railroad station, and he asked me why are so many indians in there :-D (they were gipsy beggars) .After i explained to him that they are gipsyes not indians, he started to point to some of them “ooo.. look at him he must be indian… but what about that one, se is definetly indian” it was so so funny.

If we, romanians faild to integrate gypsies why the “West” doesn’t show us how it’s done, and just go around the problem?! You can’t integrate someone who doesn’t want to be integrated and preferes a nomad, tribal life like the gypsies.
Like it or not, most of the Gypsies nowadays live outside East Europe, in France, Italy, Spain, Germany and so on.

Let me make it clear so everyone understands what gypsies are. Gypsies are the kind of people who simply cannot be integrated into any society. They simply do not want to work, they rarely send their offspring to school, they love to live in not so decent conditions, they love to beg and steal. The romanians have tried numerous times to integratye them by organizing employment seminars just for gypsies but very few showed up. What can the romanians do? GYPSIES ARE GYPSIES.No matter what country they go to they will not work, they will always steal, rob, beg and live in shacks. You call gypsies “romanians”. Why?
