The Liberals and NDP are condemning a move by the Tories to end government hiring practices that block some people from applying for jobs based on race.
Treasury Board president Stockwell Day says no Canadian should be blocked from getting a job based on their ethnicity, but the Liberals say the Tories are just trying to meddle with the public service.
Earlier this week, QMI Agency published a story about an Ottawa area woman who was shocked to learn she was barred from applying for a job because she is white. The job with Citizenship and Immigration Canada was only open to aboriginal Canadians. The Harper government says it supports affirmative action but not blocking people from applying for jobs based on their ethnic background.
“While we support diversity in the public service, we want to ensure that no Canadian is barred from opportunities in the public service based on race or ethnicity,” Day said in a statement.
“They don’t understand why having a representative public service is important,” said Ignatieff spokesman Michael O’Shaugnessy. “But most important, they are trying to change the channel. They are throwing some red meat at their most right-wing supporters.” The NDP’s Pat Martin blasted the move as a sop to “the fundamentalist, neo-conservative, right wing.” Once informed there are jobs that are only offered to certain races, Martin said that was wrong but later changed his mind again.
“Sometimes the pendulum has to swing too far in the other direction,” said Martin, who says aboriginals and visible minorities need extra help in getting jobs with the federal government.

I am surprised that white Canadians from the left wing establishment would want to ban white people from government jobs.Looks like traditional old fashioned self hating Caucasians full of white guilt.In my opinion,Canada could not survive as a nation if blacks like Senator Oliver and Muslim men were to govern Canada.Why are these non whites living in Canada?Because the countries where these non white immigrated from have corrupt black and Muslim politicians.I personally think that conservative white politicians should be left in charge of governing Canada and ditto for my country!If it isn’t broke,don’t try to fix it!
I am a member of the visible minority in Canada,
although giving visible minority preferential treatment in job hiring in government agencies and
ministries sound good, but I don’t agree with it. I
believe canadians whether white, black, asian or
hispanic whould be hired not according to their
race but according to their eligibility and qualification. The danger of preferential treatment
in hiring employees could lead to resentment,anger
and hostility against a perceived ethnic group or
groups that are given the preferential treatment
or in short a ‘backlash’ that could lead to social
chaos like what we are seeing now in other countries
where immigrants are being targetted for violence and
hate.I don’t want it to happen in Canada, my second
home. I want Canada to remain a peaceful country
where people of various races are living in harmony.
the so-called afirmative action which gives visible minority the edge over white canadians in government
positions is not only unfair but also dangerous. In
this time of economic uncertainty and recession,by
favoring a certain group of people when it comes
to job hiring will only create a backlash that will
lead to social chaos.Canada is basically a white
majority inspite of the influx of non-whites
immigrants, if the white population go against
non-white immigrants because of preferential
job hiring, Canada will turn into a third world
country filled with violence and hate, so all
canadians, white or non-white should be treated
fairly, no favouring over the other groups or

Hahahahahaaaaa I did my university studies in Canada, at the University of Toronto. I could have stayed in Canada but a few things made me not to want to live there; first of all the viciously cold weather and worse than that-the FUCKING NONWHITES WHO SWARMED CANADA! Full of pakies and chinks all over the place. You go into many buiuldings, they stink like indian food, pakies at the airpoprt, subway, govt offices. I remember that “employment equity” program in Canada where they forced companies to hire nonwhites, even if their level of education was below others (whites). So I fucked off from Canada so fast and then I took a three month shower as I stank of pakies. Canada stinks. WHY? BECAUSE IT HAS BECOME A NONWHITE SHITHOLE!
