German President Horst Köhler announced his resignation today, putting a surprising end to his six year term in office following growing uproar over his comments defending the war of Afghanistan.
In a weekend radio interview, Köhler insisted that the war was necessary to protect German economic interests in the region, including trade routes.
Köhler subsequently lashed out at domestic criticism of his comments, saying that the media had not “shown the respect due to me as the holder of the highest office of state.” In the end, however, the outrage was becoming a liability to the Merkel government, and he announced his resignation.
Germany’s role in Afghanistan has been a source of enormous domestic controversy, as Germany’s constitution specifically rules out participation in such a war, prompting many officials to claim that it “technically” isn’t a war, and that the constitutional limits don’t apply.

I am so disappointed that not one person made a comment in support of German President Horst Kohler, so I will do it for him on behalf of well-meaning Germans.
The President’s point on protection of the trade routes is correct but he needed to elaborate that it was more than just oil and drugs. Drugs? Yes, drugs. The opium trade was being wiped out by the religious Taliban (they got this aspect right) and this was a threat to the drug cartel whose primary head is the CIA – what? The CIA? Yes, the CIA managed by MI6 – the British Secret Service. This may sound preposterous but I did my homework and researched researchers – and I am correct.
But who manages the CIA, MI6 and the massive drive for wars? The bankers. Yes. Let me name a few to get things moving – The Rothschilds,Warburg, Peabody, JP Morgan and it is they that profit from wars. How? They get the war going, loan governments money for the wars and tax the people and make huge sums of money. Who do you think funded Hitler? The Rothschilds through their various banking arms. Read The World Order and Federal Reserve System by Eustice Mullins (available free on the net) and you will know why the FBI harrassed that man until the day he died in February 2010. Get informed and then you will know how to deal with it.
I wish the people of Germany would wake up, get away from their Central Banks, use their own gold and keep the banking cartels out of their country. I have visited Germany and it is a beautiful country – please keep it that way.
