Authorities have released surveillance footage of two men shooting an elderly man to death and robbing him for his jewelry.
Armando Alcala, 77, is seen on surveillance video walking to the trash in his parking lot when two men hop out of a car an attack him. “When you see the actual crime unfold before you like that it makes you angry,” Hialeah Police Chief Mark Overton said.
Hialeah Police said two men robbed the 77-year-old man of his gold chain, gold medallion and a gold-plated watch, then they shot him in the chest and left him to die. Police said, shortly after the vicious attack on West 35th Street and 12th Avenue, they stopped a red Ford Taurus in Northwest Miami-Dade. Police said they found Alcala’s jewelry and what they believe to be the murder weapon inside the car. “They quickly seized upon it, jumped out of their car, ran up to him and tried to rob him. Of course, in doing so, they ended up taking his life,” Overton said.
Neighbors are surprised to hear about the murder. “I couldn’t believe it, it happened to him, you know, because he’s a very good person,” Simone Abreu said. “I’m very sorry about it because the old guy is a very good person,” Abreu said.
Police said they have a solid case against 31-year-old Lugans Wilson and 21-year-old Errol Latson. Both men are facing murder charges against Alcala.
Police said even though they have solid evidence against both suspects, they are still working on the case.
