Police in France have arrested Sosthene Munyemana, a Rwandan doctor wanted for genocide and war crimes.
45-year-old Dr Munyemana has been employed in a hospital in Bordeaux for the last eight years but he has been arrested on an extradition warrant from Rwanda.
France and Rwanda have only recently restored diplomatic links between the two countries.
According to AFP, France had earlier on in 2008 turned down an asylum bid by Munyemana, because there were were “serious reasons” to suspect he did take part in war crimes in 1994, when 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed.
Dr Munyemana, who had been on the Interpol wanted list for some years but who denies all charges, was released on bail; however, he has to report to legal officers until a date for his trail is arranged.
