Religious scandal at Chisinau/Kishinev after a group of almost 100 devoted Orthodox Christians lead by their priest teared up a Jewish Menorah on the day of Hanukkah.
The Menorah was placed right next to the Stephen III of Moldavia statue (better known as Stephen the Great) Friday on December 11 by “representatives” of the Jewish community from the Moldovan Republic for Hanukkah celebration.
The Christians pulled the Menorah and placed a Christian cross instead of it.
“Placing a Jewish symbol next to the statue of Stephen the Great is an offense” said one of the leaders of the protest. “We are Orthodox Christians, we are a nation of Christians and Stephen the Great protected our nation from all kind Jews but Friday, they came here and placed their Menorah right in the middle of our square! This is a sacrilege! We can’t believe how our government allowed such a thing in a Christian nation!” said the priest.
The priest then held the Moldovan flag and shown it to the TV cameras: “The Cross here on our flag is our symbol, we will protect our nation with the holy cross! No Jew will oppress us in our own nation!”
Jewish representatives informed all competent forums and the Moldovan Church.
An old Jewish man said on a local TV channel: “This is unpleasant, its an act of xenophobia and antisemitism that never occurred in “our country” and they have to be stopped.”
The police said they tried without success to convince the Christians not to pull the Menorah out but they didn’t wanted to oppress the Christians.
Justice minister, Alexandru Tanase from Chisinau said that he will not tolerate such actions and that he will seek to persecute all Christians who don’t comply with their rules. He said that such actions are punishable by either a fine or 3 years imprisonment.
To avoid further conflicts, the Jewish Menorah has been moved at the Monument of the Holocaust Victims, in another side of the city.

The way I see it only past European religions should be respected in Europe. Christianity may not be a European religion considering where it came from, however that can be disputed considering that the people who live in Israel, Turkey, and other parts of the region probably didn’t come till latter. Most people have never heard of Moldova, but they may have heard of the Russian name for the capital — Kishinev. This city in 1905 was the site of one of the worst pogroms in the history of the Russian Empire. During World War II, Moldova came under the administration of Romania, whose majority population is ethnically similar to that of Moldova. These crimes were similar to those committed at Abu Ghraib and elsewhere by U.S. soldiers. It only stands to reason that soldiers were acting on broad authorization to commit such crimes, as has been established to have been the case with the U.S. armed forces.
That being said, where is the indictment against Jack Straw? Notably, there isn’t one. That speaks to a double standard, and double standards are at the root of all prejudices.
Applying a double standard in such a gross manner is anti-Semitism. The character of the action may be qualitatively different than attacking a Jewish religious symbol in a public square, but the underlying element is the same: Juden raus.

The Menorah was originally placed in a public square on the OTHER side of a very large road… it was these so called Christians who went to considerable effort to place the Menorah next to the statue of the Christian King/national figurehead.

Nowhere in my post did I say that the jews themselves were the ones who placed the menorah in that place. Since the story vaguely referred to the menorah-placers as ‘representatives’ of the jewish community, it could have been jews or those who sympathise with jewry (Since I am not a Christian, that really is of no relevance to me).
The end result is the same, either way.
Either jews or Judeo-Christians (meaning those Christians who view jews as holy and faultless) could have been responsible, and Moldovan Christians with a sence of Nationhood would have been right to react as they did, having seen a foreign symbol given the same level of reverence as one of their own.

The Old Testament is the Jewish Bible and the Christian tradition arises directly out of the Jewish tradition. Any Christian is someone who believes in Jesus as Christ, as Messiah is following a JEW.
